Question:
We talked about propane/CO2 mosquito traps about this time last year.
Well, this year I tried a PowerTrap from http://www.mosquito-zapper.com/
. I was very disappointed and sent it back for a refund. It was quite
loud and almost completely ineffective.
I just use the garage as a "decompression" chamber and avoid opening my
back door after dusk. That seems to work pretty well.
Answer:
The "research" I did on it last year found that people
got the most positive results with the "Mosquito Magnet".
Some people liked some of the other brands, but there
seemed to be more complaints about them than anything.
One other thing learned was that you need to leave the
unit on for at least about 6 weeks of continous use
in order to get rid of the mosquitos and any new ones
from eggs/larva they lay. Apparantly alot of people
were just turning on the trap when they spent time outside.
Using the trap isn't the only thing, you need to clean out
your gutters, make sure they don't hold water, make sure
nothing else near you holds water, etc. Get rid of
their breeding grounds and you'll get rid of most of
your mosquitos.
One more thing... even though this isn't the "favored"
brand, Big Lots did have the coleman Moquito Deleto
on sale recently for $99 I was told.
