Question:
Does anyone have any tips on sewing mosquito-type netting? Any
sugguestions on what type of netting to buy? Here's the short version on
why I'm asking.....We have a 10x10 Quik Shade canopy type tent. I want to
add "walls" to it but must admit that I'm having a hard time finding exactly
what I want for the price I want to pay. I know that I can buy netting at
the local fabric store. I also have an idea of how to piece it
together....BUT I would love to hear tips, hints, horror stories, etc. on
working with netting.
Answer:
-My brother-in-law sells mosquito tents premade. I don't know if he'd give you
advice but his prices are reasonable. His URL is:
http://www.longroad.com/
-I use a fairly long stitch, and use a fake flat fell seam. Make one pass,
using a 1" seam allowance, and then fold the seam allowance under and
topstitch it down. Also, use taut sewing; pulling the seam as you go.
-Mosquito netting should be readily available at your local fabric store. We
use a lot of it for (of all things!) classical style (long) ballet tutus, as
in 'les Sylphides'. It is quite inexpensive and easy to work with: just cut
and sew. If you want to finish the edges, bind them in bias tape or seal
them with tent sealing goop.
