Question:
Does any one have any suggestions about a product that repels mosquitoes
but is not a spray that you put on your body or clothes? I almost never
get bitten by mosquitoes but this weekend, while camping, I was
attacked. I have a galaxy of bites on my legs, feet and ankles. I
didn't even notice all the bites til Sunday morning because I was so
busy swatting at the dozens of mosquitoes swarming my head and arms. I
was wearing Cutter Advanced with "Picaridin" in it which doesn't work at
all. I had several Citronella candles and those smoldering mosquito
coils. I might as well have had none of these things with the way they
were coming after us.
So what I'm looking for is some sort of product that is much stronger
than candles and doesn't have to be applied to my body, like some sort
of electronic device or something. These things all seem to be pricey
so I want one that really works even in the most extreme conditions.
Answer:
-My youngest wears a bug suit due to have reactions from mosquito bites. The
suit is quite ugly but he has no other choice. I have good results using
Sawyer Broad Spectrum Composite Formula

From what I've read quite a few of the electronic devices are a waste of
money.
-The electronic bug repellors only seem to work on the mosquitos who
have read the advertising. The other 99.9999999% just ignore them.
DEET and permethrin are the two most effective chemicals. Many other
chemical are less effective, or effective for a shorter time. If you
wish to avoid chemicals entirely, the head net and the netting clothes
do work, although warm.
Some have found that certain clothing colors and personal care
products tend to attract more bugs.
I find that having a few feet of snow on the ground tends to repel
most bugs.
