Question:
mosquito repellent,i googled but there isn't much info.
what a folks using these days, with success?
Answer:
-I used Cutter brand last weekend when we were ripping down ivy and
cutting grass etc. and had pretty good luck with that; it was the
Deep Woods (I think that's the variety) which has a higher
concentration of DEET than the other Cutter stuff. I bought a box set
of the brand at BJ's that had the heavy-duty stuff, some "Skintastic"
stuff with aloe, a kid's version which will probably be enough for
just being out on the deck or whatever, and some towelettes which I'm
going to keep in the car.
I like the Off Botanicals, but it's more for walks in the park than it
is for yard work when the bugs are out with a vengeance, which they
are around here right now. Hot + Humid = miserable. Bleah. Makes my
glasses steam up.
-My 10-year-old son has extreme allergic reactions to mosquito bites.
He gets hard, red areas the size of a CD around the bites and then
develops blisters. I have been using Cutter insect repellent on him
for years (he gets the bites only when we forget to use the Cutter). I
think the experts have said in recent years that high levels of DEET
in the repellent are not as harmful to children as once thought to be.
If you are planning to use this on a child, I would consult a
pediatrician for his/her advice, just for your peace of mind.
